Fair Fun!

We had our 5th trip to the KY state fair last weekend. We always enjoy it but it's way too hot outside for a fair. I grew up going to the South Alabama State Fair every year in October. It's much nicer in the fall. There are more pix in an album here.

After School Snacks

I'm trying to give the kids healthy afternoon snacks when Mallory gets home. Every once in a while I'll throw in something like a milkshake but for the most part it's fruit or veggies. They made fruit kabobs one day and poor Michael stabbed himself with the skewer. :( Note the tear streaming down his face, bless his heart. I need to find some other kid friendly way to make those.

Color Week-2

We had fun with this round of color week starring...

Pink

White-Mallory said she wanted to try to blend it to the floor since it's "white"

Brown-here she wanted to lie on the floor because dirt is brown and the floor has dirt on it:)

Black-doing a scary face because black is scary

Orange-pretty normal orange picture

Lunch time

Uncle Bud wanted to get Mallory something as she started school so I suggested a new lunch box. We picked out this cute little pink one from Pottery Barn. It holds plenty and fits in her backback. Mallory would eat the school lunch but I like packing her a lunch and putting little notes and surprises in from time to time. Thanks Uncle Bud!

Michael's Back to School

Michael actually started preschool back in January though he only went one day a week. Today was the first day of his new 3 year old class. He will go two mornings a week for three hours. He wasn't happy to go but the teacher said he did fine after we left. When we picked him up he said he had a good day!

New Date with Martha and Wesley

Since Mallory is in school now we have come up with a new time for the kids to still go over to Martha and Wesley's every week. Mallory has been going one morning (until after lunch) a week since she was about 18 mos and Michael since he was about the same. We didn't want to give up that special time when Mallory went off to school. Now I take them on Wednesdays after Mallory gets home and they spend the late afternoon and have dinner there. Then Paul and I pick them up on our way to the church. Martha had given me a page out of a magazine showing this cake a while back so I made it this week to celebrate their new playdate.

Color Week!

The kindergarten classes at Mallory's school had the first of two color weeks this week. They have a certain color they focus on each day and the kids are asked to wear the color if they have it already. Most of the kids already know their colors but they concentrate on spelling the colors, writing them, recognizing them, etc. This week was red, yellow, green, blue and purple. Stay tuned for next week's colors!

Mallory's Ride Home

We decided to let Mallory ride the bus home from school and Monday was her first day. I never rode a school bus as there was never one zoned for where we lived. Paul never rode the bus because he lived practically across the street from the school in his hometown that was all the grades. So, this was a big deal for us to meet Mallory on her first day. The bus comes pretty early in the morning so Paul or I will still take her but she is literally the first person to get off on the ride home. I had picked her up last week and the bus would be right behind me so it just made sense.

Here are Paul and Michael waiting for the big arrival.

Where is Sissy?
Here she comes...
Turning on our street.
Coming up the hill.

Almost here...
The lights are on.
There's Mal. She sits on the first seat next to the window. The bus monitor sits next to her so she can't possibly get in any trouble!
Our girl.
Home at last!
