Library Story/Craft Time

The kids always have a great time at the library during Storytime. They often do crafts in the older class and Michael got to sit in this last time with Mallory and our neighbor Lillian. They made these cute frog puppets.

Losing Teeth

Mallory's two bottom adult teeth had come in but the baby teeth weren't even loose so we had to have them pulled the other day. What most kids lose for free we had to pay 186.00 to get rid of! She was very brave and said she didn't feel a thing so that's good. She said, "Mommy, I know you are the tooth fairy but will you put some glitter under my pillow when you put the money so it will look like fairy dust?" So, of course I did. I don't know what the going rate for teeth is these days but we gave her 50 cents for each tooth. Hey, we already paid nearly 100 bucks for each one right?!

Hair yesterday, gone today

Mallory wanted her hair cut and as much as it pained us we had to let her do it. She wanted chin length but we compromised on the shoulders. She loves it and she does look cute as a button. I actually am proud of her for having her own opinion of her hair. Good for her.

Cheer Camp

Mallory went to a cheer camp at one of the local high schools last week. They learned cheers, played games and had a lot of fun. They will get to cheer with the big cheerleaders at one of the games this fall. Lillian, our neighbor and Mal's big pal, attended the camp too.

More Father's Day fun

After the service we went to a cajun restaurant in Lexington called Furlong's. It's one of Paul's favorite places to eat since it reminds him of home. The kids gave him their gifts, a plaque with his new book cover on it and a grill cover.

Happy Father's Day

to my husband, father and step-father. You are all wonderful men and the kids and I are blessed to have you in our lives.
I love the card I found for Paul. On the outside it says, "Happy Father's Day from your wife" then inside, "the nice lady who made it all possible." Cute.

The Niagara of the South

We spent a night at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park over Memorial Day Weekend. (see the whole album here) We love the state parks here in KY. The "resort" only means there is a lodge or cabins on the grounds. It's not fancy but is nice because there is a restaurant in the lodge and we don't have to pack up food for meals. We took a raft ride on the river to see the falls up close which was a real treat. The kids swam in the pool and we did some hiking on nice, marked out trails thru the woods. On our way home we stopped by Col. Sanders' original restaurant where Kentucky Fried Chicken was born. It was a great two days.

More vintage photos

My mother emails me these old photos from time to time. They are so fun to look at and analyze now that I am older. Like whose car is that in the first one? I think Mallory looks like me but Michael sure doesn't look like my brother. And what about my short Easter dress in the second one?! It's obviously WAY too small. Look how short the length is and the sleeves also. We won't even talk about how short my bangs are or where my shoes are. And do you notice the pilot wings I have on? Too hilarious!

The Drive In

We went to the drive in for the first time as a family this past weekend. It was so much fun and so family friendly. The doors open at 630 so we got there in time to set up, get something to eat and let the kids play. The only downside of the whole drive in thing is the movie doesn't start til dark which around here is 930ish. But it was still a very enjoyable evening and I hope we can go back soon. We didn't stay for the second feature. Those people must get out after 1:00 in the morning! There are three drive ins in the vicinity of our town so I hope to try them all eventually. As a kid I remember going to see The Song of the South at the drive in near Montgomery Mall and playing on the swings right up next to the screen. It was fun then and still is!
