Missing: One Top Tooth

It's official...Mallory is growing up. Kids really look different when they lose their two front top teeth. She lost one of hers last weekend while spending the night with Martha. I think she's so adorable though and look forward to seeing those top permanent ones come in. She has the two bottom perm teeth and they are really small so she might be destined for a mouth full of small teeth which will be just fine.

February Teas at Liberty Hall

This was our fourth year to go to the February Teas at the Liberty Hall Historic Site here in Frankfort. Martha's birthday is in February so we usually go as part of her celebration. This year Yvonne brought Mallory a Ty bear that had been a part of Bobby's collection. It's name is Valentine so it was perfect for the occasion. Yvonne has given both the kids things that had belonged to Bobby. We will always treasure them.

First Dance

Mallory's elementary school had a Family Valentine Dance a couple of weeks ago. I had seen the info come home in her folder but didn't mention it and hadn't planned to go. Paul was traveling back from Honduras that night and if he had been here it would have been sweet for the two of them to go. Well, Mallory got off the bus that Friday and said, "Mommy, can we go to the dance tonight at my school?" I had some time to kill before leaving for Louisville to pick Paul up so I said sure. There was a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the school play, Jungle Book, so I thought it would be nice to support that anyway.

After the kids ate, we ventured in to the gym where the dance was going on. It was all dark in there and I just had to laugh at the thought of this being my kids' first school dance. It was all good, innocent fun, but I dread the junior high dances for sure!
I took so many pix of the kids in action I had to put them in an album. You can click here for more

My father's OK

My father lives in New Zealand and I have had several people calling to emailing to check in on him. I just talked to him on Skype and everyone there is fine. He is actually on the North Island and the big earthquake was on the South Island. He said everyone is just devastated as the country is very small and most people have someone they know in Christchurch where so much of the destruction was. He said with the amount who perished there in such a small country it would be like thousands of people dying in the US. Thanks for checking on him. We're thankful they're all OK.

Sweet

Michael wooed his teachers with roses, chocolate and balloons last week for Valentine's Day. He's such a ladies' preschooler.

Frozen Yogurt-all the rage...again

So the summer of 1985 I lived in Los Angeles. I was 19 and got my first job ever. It was at a movie theater in Westwood near the UCLA campus. And everyday I went to this frozen yogurt shop and got a small strawberry yogurt with granola topping. That was 26 years ago so frozen yogurt is nothing new. But these new self-serve yogurt shops are now popping up all over the place. The twist is that you get the yogurt yourself and then add your toppings. Then they weigh it and you pay by the ounce.

These pictures were taken at Orange Leaf in Lexington. They have 16 flavors and a lot of good toppings. The kids had a ball fixing their own yogurts!

The furniture is really cool and mod. Michael had to climb thru the hole in the chairs.
Check out the fun spoons.
The yogurt is really good here. We plan to go back the next time we are in Lex.

Valentine Treats

I made these goodies for our church lunch last weekend. I had never done the conversation heart cookies and had fun writing the little sayings on them. I was thinking about how 10 years ago there wouldn't have been a "Text Me" in the bunch.

Ever been to Gigi's?

We stopped by Gigi's Cupcakes in Lexington when my brother was here. We went a little overboard picking out cupcakes but had a nice variety to try. Can you believe the amount of icing they put on these things? The verdict: just OK if you ask me.

From top left to right: Wedding Cake, Miss Princess, Midnight Magic, Italian Creme, Caramel Apple and Salted Caramel.

Happy Valentine's Day

Eight years ago today was Paul's and my first date. We took this picture that night just in case anything panned out! Glad we have it. We're planning our annual family Valentine Date tonight at White Castle. Then Paul and I will celebrate later this week. Hope you have a happy heart day too!

Saturday morning breakfast at Doodles

Last Summer we were eating dinner in Lexington and saw this cute little breakfast place across the street. Mallory said "Oh Doodles, like cock-a-doodle-doo." Very clever, none of the rest of us had come up with that. So, Saturday morning we got up and drove over to try it out. We all enjoyed it. When we got there they were on a short wait. We received a number and when they called it we placed our order before we sat down. The food came out shortly after that. It's a well run operation.Mallory brought one of her Barbies and set up a special table for her:)

I got the shrimp and grits-yummy.
We got an order of beignets and I liked them better than the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.
Bud ordered huevos racheros. It was also very good.
Michael loved the wheat toast and bacon.
I would definitely recommend trying Doodles for breakfast. Here's the website if you want to see their fun, creative menu.

Next stop...

We went to one of the malls in Louisville and just had some fun walking around.

Michael climbed in to one of the display beds at Pottery Barn Kids when I wasn't looking. He was so cute I had to snap a picture. Then I made him get out:)
Uncle Bud took the kids in the Apple store while I was looking around the Gap. I came in to see them playing at these computers. Very smart set up, Apple.
Then while Bud and I had a coffee at Starbucks the kids got a little too close to the fountain.

A security guard came over and asked me to keep them from touching the water. Then he gave them these nice stickers.
After that we went to the Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen for a little treat. Everyone got ice cream but me. I tried the strawberry cupcake. They keep them in a cooler so it was too cold for me but good. I like my cake at room temp.
These little kids' tables are too cute.
