Michael's School BIrthday

They celebrate all the kids' birthdays at Michael's preschool and since his is a summer one they did it a couple of weeks ago. They have the kids come up and talk about them and draw a cake on the board. Then the birthday person gets to hand out the treats he brought for the class. Paul and I both went for the little celebration! He picked out Zingers which I thought fit with his upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory theme really well. They have to bring store bought stuff or you know I would have been whipping up something homemade!

Everyone sings Happy Birthday!

Say it ain't so

This sweet little thing is 45 years old today. I have always loved my birthday and while the years adding up part isn't so great, I do love celebrating. This morning Paul is taking me to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, one of my most favorite things to do.

By the way, why can't birthdays be this simple anymore? It looks like all I had was a cake and a party hat and I'm sure it was wonderful. Look at all those nicely wrapped presents on the uneven card tables with the sweet table cloth on it. Ahhhh, simplicity. Come back to me.

Firestation Mommy and Me

Our MOPS group visited a local fire station recently. Michael and I had stopped by the Goodwill on our way there and he happened to find this nice fire hat so it was perfect for the morning!

Twenty and Tired!

So there's something I have been doing that I haven't mentioned on this blog...training to walk a marathon. I did two marathons ten years ago. I had always wanted to do another one and this time was just right. Today I walked 20 miles, the longest walk I will need to do before the big event on June 11. I have been keeping up with my training on another blog. Here it is if you are interested!

Swimming Lessons

Oma is sponsoring Mallory to take some swimming lessons at the Y. Mallory is doing great and has actually swam the length of this pool on her back several times. Sabrina is a great teacher and we're hoping this summer Mallory really gets it.

Jungle Book

Mallory's school presented Jungle Book for their spring musical. The day they did it for the school everyone was supposed to wear jungle prints so Mallory wore this cute outfit. Then I dress Michael like a little safari guide. It was really great. Miss Jones and Ms. Holmes worked really hard with the cast of 50 elementary kids! Next year Mallory will be eligible to try out for the musical. You know this stage mom is going to enjoy that.

My Clever Girl

Last week Mallory's school was taking their end of the year tests. When I was getting ready to lie down with the kids for bed Mallory said, "Mommy, I know you get up after we fall asleep and do all kinds of things out here so tonight I want you to find an old t-shirt and write on it Testing Today and on the back "Do Your Best on the Test".

I asked if her teacher suggested that and she said that she had come up with it on her own. I love that kid. On a side note, my mother gets the emails from Mallory's teacher that she sends to all the parents. Mrs. Graves had written that the MAP tests were going to take place that week and have your child get lots of rest, eat a good breakfast, etc. Mother and I were talking on the phone and she said, "Is Mallory getting tested on maps?":)Posted by Picasa

Derby Day at school

Today at Mallory's school the K, 1st and 2nd grade classes are having a Derby Breakfast and a parade of hats for those who wear one. Mallory chose the design on her hat but I put it all together:) She said she wanted a green hat with horses going around it with riders hunched over like they were driving. Then she wanted a horse shoe on the top with a sign on it. We got the hat itself at the Dollar Tree for a dollar and everything else we had around the house. The roses are courtesy of the Lord himself by way of Paul the family gardener! Martha gave her this beautiful outfit for Christmas which was just perfect for today.

Oma's 70th Beach Blast

We had such a great time in Gulf Shores celebrating my mother's 70th birthday. The weather was great and even though the water was freezing the kids still romped around in it. We hope to go back every year on our way to Paul's family reunion. To see more of the fun click here.
