Michael had his first school party this week. Paul couldn't be there but our friend Martha came along to cheer Michael on. I got the costume he wore at a yard sale years ago and have never known who it was. The teacher had the kids come up one at a time and asked them who they were pretending to be. Michael said, "STAR WARS!" Well, I knew it wasn't that. Mrs. Conner later said he was a Power Ranger. Who knew?

Yard Sale Score
My neighbor across the street was having a yard sale Saturday. She's a principal and about two years older than me. I went over to look but didn't have much time. She had a lot of cute clothes and I picked up a few tops and a couple of jackets but had to go get the kids and do some other errands that morning. I told Melissa how cute everything was and couldn't believe how much stuff she was getting rid of. Later that morning we came home to find 4 or 5 big bags of clothes on our porch. She brought everything over to me that didn't sell. Talk about fun. Here's the rundown:
8t-shirts
5 polo shirts
12 skirts
2 suits

Bobby
Our friend Bobby Hill went to be with Jesus on Friday night. Bobby and Yvonne have been good friends to us ever since we moved to Frankfort. Bobby came over many times to help Paul (really Bobby did it all) with electrical issues, he kept Michael in the nursery many times, he hosted egg hunts and flew kites with Mallory and Michael on Easter and he and I were greeters together every month at the church. He was a great man. We will miss him dearly.
A little break
The kids and I were walking around downtown during Fall Break and stopped by the Farmer's Market. They picked up a cheese sample and some crackers. A nice lady gave them each a little pumpkin. Here they took a break to eat their cheese on one of the many benches around town painted in preparation for the World Equestrian Games which were recently held here in KY.

In the great green room...
In Frankfort we hear a lot about John Brown, KY's first US senator who built Liberty Hall and the house next door, the Orlando Brown House, which was built for one of his sons. I was surprised to hear that Margaret Wise Brown, the author of the famous children's book, Goodnight Moon, was a descendant. Because she wrote so many children's books there is a story time once a month at Liberty Hall featuring her works. I took the kids last week during Fall Break. Margaret actually grew up in New York but one of the books that was read mentioned her family in Kentucky and visits from her great aunts. She never married or had her own children and sadly died at the young age 42.
